Eric M. Thurlow currently serves as the Chief Commercial Officer at RER. Eric is committed to enhancing the customer experience and developing long-term market strategies that drive organizational growth and customer satisfaction. His leadership is characterized by a customer-centric approach, ensuring that RER remains at the forefront of industry innovation and service excellence. Before founding RER in 2023, Eric held the position of Assistant Vice President at Genesse & Wyoming’s Ohio Central Railroads. His extensive career spans multiple roles across Class 1 and shortline railroads including WATCO, Canadian National, Ann Arbor Railroad, Maryland Midland Railway, and Norfolk Southern. Throughout his career, Eric has gained a wealth of experience, having worked as a conductor, engineer, chief dispatcher, trainmaster, and director of sales & marketing. This diverse background equips him with a comprehensive understanding of the rail industry and its operational intricacies.
Eric holds an associate’s degree in railroad operations from Virginia Western Community College and a bachelor’s degree in business management from Towson University. He is also a designated supervisor of locomotive engineers and a certified conductor.
James served in the rail industry for 24 years before helping form the Rochester & Erie Railway in 2023. During his 24 year career with Norfolk Southern, James worked as a Clerk, Chief Clerk, Assistant Terminal Trainmaster, Assistant Road Trainmaster, Road Trainmaster, Assistant Track Supervisor, Track Supervisor, & Terminal Superintendent. In 2021, James started a financial services business helping others with their investments & insurance needs as a licensed Broker & Investment Advisor.
James holds the position of Chief Operating Officer with the Rochester & Erie Railway where he focuses on customer service, operating procedures & logistics while also serving as conductor, engineer, track inspector & laborer.
James holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration Marketing Management from Western Governors University.
